GPS to radio connection

I want to feed my lat/long info from my Lowrance 520C to my Icom ic-m421. The attached pics show the "backbone" of T connectors which the Lowrance feeds from and to. The central black "phono" type terminal in the second pic feeds to the I-com. Now the possibly silly question, can I buy an additional T piece then run a suitably terminated cable to the radio and hey presto it will all work? Or is this just a simpletons dream? Any advice welcome and any trade members able to supply, even better. I have checked previous NMEA 2000 posts but cannot find an answer there.

Nope, sorry but your Icom like eveyone else's only does NMEA0381. They are yet to bring out an N2K model. Your plotter should output 0381 via a pair of thin wires which you could connect to the Icom lead with a suitable phono plug. The outer section is the ground wire and the inner the signal which will be tx or + from the Lowrance.

Ah yes, so it is . I didn't think it looked quite right when I typed it. Old technology anyway, so confined to the dustbin part of my brain that still just about holds on to irrelevant old info.

Tell me I've just had a weeks tussle with a Raymarine AIS650 linked to Classic E80s via NMEA 0183, I'm still not convinced it's working

Erin, thanks for quick response. Do these "two thin wires" come from the pwr/data lead on the Lowrance? I cannot see any free wires at the back of the unit.

Thanks Dave, have now read specific pages on NMEA connections and now think relevant lat/long data must come from Network lead. Will check where this lead goes to and how it terminates. With regard to your quote I think I'm being slow roasted.

It's the one that you probably have a spare from the bunch of three that come out the big power connector.

One cable does plotter power, one feeds the network (if needed) and the third is your NMES 0813 in / out. Check Pikey's link!

For what it;s worth, I;ve built a patch panel so that I can use the Garmin henadheld to feed either the plotter or the VHF. Theorty being if I loose the GPS antenna, I feed it from the Garmin. If I loose the plotter, I still have a fully functioning DSC.
