Go pro HD cam....

So , I'm going to get one at last ! But now what I want to do is be able to go in a shop and see what I want to buy to fit my set up . BUt I dont seem able to do this...

Clearly the camera , the waterproof housing , then what ?

I have an area that it 2.5 x 5cm on the top of my afame ..will this be enough to stick anything to ?

Its either that or the roll bar mount and hope i can 'bend the mount' out by 2mm to fit my frame.

Does anyone know of 'the deal' going of where to get this from?

See RAM mounts website. Base plate with 1" ball, GoPro mount with 1" ball and double 1" ball clamp gives 360 degree rotation of camera. Base plate will have to be bolted to A frame (should just fit your space). All metal parts are coated stainless so no rusting. Total cost for three parts will be less than £30. Just fitted mine last week and works perfectly.

yep - is a very nice looking bit of engineering, but I fear overkill for my needs ...

Small and simple is what I am after ...more sticky pads on a 5cm ss tube if that will work ( with a teather to be sure )

I'm still undecided myself. I like the camera but with the variety of boats we take in I'm not sure which kit to get to give the best flexibility for use.

Which is the latest or best model ? Where's the best price ATM for a kit with mounts/case ?

Sounds like the same situation I'm in (but less boats !)

If I work it out I'll let you know. I thought I'd appeal to the masses on here for help. Am hoping someone will generate a list of what I need....

My hero 2 came from ebay. It was a seller called maxproaudio. I was very nervous about buying from ebay but it all turned out perfect. Having said that about 4 months after buying it it started to freeze. I contacted gopro directly who asked me to send it to them in America. Within three weeks i had a brand new camera delivered so customer service wise it was excellent. All i had to produce (email) was a copy of the ebay / paypal transaction which showed it was a new purchase and not second hand.

In terms of mounts and having a look at the camera bits before buying try popping to the clothes shop "animal" as they stock a fair bit for gopro. Well they do in canterbury anyway.

Failing that. These chaps have given me some excellent advice and this is where i got all my extra bits from http://www.shredheads.co.uk/index.htm

Last thing is that the sticky pads are bloody strong. I use one on my waterskis and don't bother with a tether now. Make sure you buy a floaty back door attachment so worst case scenario it floats.

Hope that helps

They remain in place. Once stuck they wont budge. i imagine after time especially with salt water use they may become weaker but the one i have on the ski that takes a pounding is still stuck firm.

Its these ones http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=160866033805

You can flat ones and curved ones. you get a few with each camera and I've only used one to date.

yes the sticky pads stay in place! mine has survived more than one stuffing!!!
infact thats a bit of a downside to them, as once there in place, there in place for good. been on fishing charters abroad and wanted to use the camera for the landing of the big catch and there not happy about having these pads stuck all over there boats
just got myself the handlebar mounting kit, but i may be using a lanyard til it proves it's self.

You see that's no use to us, I'll be forever buying pads and explaining to buyers why a GoPro is not included! Is there an alternate option of securing ?

i got the veho muvi and that comes with loads of mounts but bought the veho surfboard stick on mount and that seems very firm. (i.e the pad's on for good i don't think it will come off in a hurry!)

Veho Website - Product Detail

got it for about £25 after a bit of googling.

Try this site, they have a large range of cameras and accessories, I got my HD Drift from there, arrived in good time. I might buy a second, currently its mounted on a bar over the console, but I may mount one on the a frame pointing backwards.

If your just after a mount that you can swap from boat to boat then you can get a roll bar mount and a handle bar mount which will then clamp on to any bit of pole you have. Be it an a frame or a piece of stainless around the console. Alternatively the suction mount is very strong but I've not used it on the boat yet and not sure if the float door will support weight of it.

Speaking from experience - the suction mount is good, and will stick enough for really rough weather - but given the wrong sort of chop will possibly vibrate its self off just at the wrong moment - I didn't manage to catch mine as it went overboard but luckily (and surprisingly) my household insurance covered it!

I now use a lanyard!

The "floaty back" seemed to be the solution - but it is a bit of foam that you stick to one of your camera's back doors - trouble is I stuck it to my "normal" door, but now I've an extra battery and the wi-fi remote I can't move the floaty back to the deeper back doors!

Also - in the small print it says the floaty back door is NOT going to make the unit float if used with the suction mount - the mount is just too heavy for it, so actually it isn't the solution I thought it would be.

Also - with the sticky mounts, I've found mine vibrate just a bit as the bits you click onto them aren't quite a tight fit. This is OK for the video, but can produce an annoying clicking sort of sound as it vibrates. Not a show stopper if there's background noise anyway, but could be better.
