Garmin VEU706L G2 Vision

I've been looking for the above card for a while but they seem to be few and far between.

I've noticed this one listed and in the item description they mention that its a VUS706L, I emailed them to make sure it is actually a VUE and they confirmed that it is.

Can anyone see anything Im not?

It is for the newer plotters that use SD/micro SD
If you are looking for the older Garmin datacard type, this will not be of any use

It's a Garmin 451 that takes an SD card.

I bid on it the other night and lost, just after the auction ended I received an email from the seller with a second chance offer, he was only looking for £30, gut feeling was that something wasn't right, I took a chance and bought it.

A brand new unopened Garmin G2 Vision UK and Ireland card came through the door this morning.

Very happy.

Garmin aint daft. They know people would copy them and flog them on ebay so they will have put some copy protection on. Probably the easiest way to do that is to have the software read an identifier from the card (UUID) and check it matches something on the card which it wont if its copied.

Alternatively you write the device info the first time its used someplace onto the card.. put it in a new device and it knows its not the original...

Any particular reason why you want an old version?

2 reasons:

1)Primarily a shedload of old files that are in the old Garmin format (so unreadable by V.6.16.n - the version I upgraded to when I upgraded the PC) , and my old V 1.3.? that came with the GPS-V doesn't do GPX..... Vs6.5 - 6.8 do both.

2)Minor Niggle - the trails on the new one are rubbish - the older versions show them as a nice red line that you can see, and if you want it more "delicately" shown on screen change the default size & colour. The default on the one I have is a thin thin grey with no option to change the default, so you have to alter every trail you bring on screen..... (have a look at the garmin forums - I'm not the only one that finds this "feature" annoying!)

But primarily to convert the files without having to push them all through the GPS -V, which will be a slightly(!) tedius process & Inflict various changes to files I have specially formatted for the GPS12......

Anyone got an old version on a disc they don't need any more?

I have spent a couple of weeks going flippin' nuts trying to use excel / notepad / online converters etc to convert the files and can either get the waypoints or the trails but not both (and Mapsource don't seem to want to allow me to add one import to t'other) so I am either going to end up going completely insane or loosing a ton of old data....

Can anyone help????

(and if you are worried about licencing, Garmin seem to throw the software out "for free" and get you to pay for the maps. I just cant get the prehistoric version of the software to "partial upgrade my V4.05!) (I have a copy of V 6.13.6 running on the "main" PC, but It's as much use at reading PCX5 as V 4.05 is at reading GPX.....

Edit - I've just realised how many smiles I've used here. May be I should just give up & stick to premix!!!!)

Unfortunately all my stuff is probably older than that, but I will check...

I'm pretty sure I have a version than can read both file formats, though. Let me have a look.

I have several versions of 4.xx and 5.x but nothing newer i'm afraid.

I recall when I had a similar problem needing an old version I found a site with all the archived versions, thats why I have so many. Sorry no record of the site though.
