I wouldn't call in an instruction book, maybe an installation book but certainly not a user manual!

I just searched the manual for the 5012 and there is no mention of SRM

Even worse I cant remember where I got the idea that you can send a Pan Pan from the plotter.

The install manual for the 600 says:
Quote:
If you connected the 600 to a garmin chartplotter using n2k or 0183, you can enter silent mode or send an srm from the chartplotter software. See the owners manual provided with your chartplotter for more information.

I have a sneaky feeling the boffins on planet Garmin thought they would be able to implement it but then found they could not.

I have a sneaky feeling you're right. The online instruction book for the AIS600 is not the same as the one Matt has. It makes no mention now of silent mode or SRM being controlled by the plotter. The Garmin NMEA2000 technical handbook does show some pgn's for SRM (pgn 129802) and command controls (pgn 126208), so it looks like it would be feasible via N2k, but they're obviously struggling with the software or certification.

On the plus side, it means we've not missed something in all the plotter menus. On the downside - there's more wiring for him to do .

Reply from Garmin:

Quote:
When the unit was first released over a year ago the early user manuals did mention that it was possible to enable an SRM or silent running modes when the AIS 600 was connected to a NMEA 2000 chart plotter. This was mentioned in early installation manuals how ever Garmin decided to not include this as a feature on the plotter and therefore the installation instructions were re-written. Unfortunately Garmin doesn’t have control over the stock most retailers and distributors have, so some may still have units in stock which have the early installation instructions.

Well it was a fair bit less than a year ago when I bought it

I think that's probably down to SMG but I don't care who gives me my new radar
