Garmin 451's Oban

Well, during the diving weekend up at Oban, the chart plotter went off as it had lost the satellite signal.
All connections are fine and it's a totally sealed unit.... Tried a factory re-set and still nothing.

Any ideas ?

Cheers Phil

Everything apart from sat data. So the power is fine. I don't have a transducer with it but it does have that function as I have a dedicated Echo sounder.

How long are you giving it to find the satellites? If it's been off a long time/ moved a long distance switched off or been reset, it will
Have lost its almanac & need to do a cold start, it can take up to an hour. If you go the GPS status page, can you see the signals from the individual satellites?

The sat strength page shows nothing. All on light grey as it can not find anything. I left it on all the way back and till the boat was on the trailer. So maybe just short of an hour. I restored factory settings. Is that the same ?

It sounds like a similar problem I had with my 550. Is there a port to the back of the unit that looks like it can take a cable (lookes a bit like the old cable conection on an old tv). If so it may be damp and causing shorting. dry, clean and protect this connection point and then seal it to prevent water ingress. It might just cure your problem..TSM

I've loosened all the fitting on the back and put it in the airing cupboard, I'll leave it there for 24 hours and have another go.
How do you do a "soft" reset ?

Cheers all.
