Garmin 276 replacement

Anyone thinking of buying one - may be worth waiting a month or 2 or for Excel London 2007.

Garmin UK tell me they are bringing out a UK version of the 478 without the XM weather facility "before Christmas for around £750" and includes the automotive kit.

This compares to a UK adjusted price of £650 for the 478 from WestMarine + a copy of city navigator europe for around £80.

If the Garmin UK price expectation is reasonably ballpark, then the US purchase of a 478 hardly seems worth the hassle especially as the 278 is loaded with 'elements of the Bluechart g2' map. If this is better than the 276 basemap and means you don't have to buy a bluechart g2, then the US 478 route starts to look expensive.

Some Swiss and German sites are already selling the 278.
