Fusion vs other

Hi

Am thinking of getting a fusion radio/iPod dock for rib. Was surprised at how bulky the unit is.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts radios/iPod docks?

Thanks

Very difficult to get a system that works well and sounds good whilst underway, depending on the layout of the boat etc. You may end up having to fill your console with huge speakers powered by amps etc etc. Wish I hadn't bothered with mine, I never listen to it.

If you want music for whilst underway, plug headphones into your ipod instead, you can hear the music and they block the sound of the twin optimax's, oh is that just me?

Contrary to Martini's views, I'm quite pleased with my Fusion radio ipod thingy. I fitted Fusion 6" speakers into the console and with it cranked up, it's loud enough. Admittedly there's wind and engine noise so it's not the same as a stereo in your car, but it whiles away the monotony of a boring crossing. My only regret is that I mounted the speakers a bit low on the console which means volume is fine for passengers but not so good for helm and navigator seats. The Fusion is simple to operate but sophisticated as well. If the remote panel wasn't so expensive, I'd have mounted the main unit int eh console out of the way and just put the remote panel on the dashboard. Neater installation, and being round it woudl compliment the dials nicely.

Fine unless you have passengers that want to talk to you. Actually come to think of it, maybe that's not such a bad idea after all. Won't be able to hear the cries of 'slow down'

I have a Fusion iPod in my Rib. The first one malfunctioned and they sent me the latest (upgraded model) immediately without a quibble. I was very impressed at their customer service. The second unit has been absolutely faultless.

Works great, although I have to say I don't actually have it on that often! When going at speed it's hard to hear and at low speeds I'm generally near other boats and wouldn't want to blast out music.

Fusion

I'm just about to take delivery of a new RIB and I have the Fusion iPod thingy fitted with speakers in the front console and in under the rear seats. It is a fantastic piece of kit and has come highly recommended from a number of different sources. If in doubt, as another thread said, the Southampton show is coming up and various products will be on show and are available. You could come and see my kit as the RIB will be on show there. Enjoy the show.

I have the Ipod Fushion fitted to the Parker and it is used every day, at the beginning and end of our trips. The screen can fog up rather too easily, but otherwise it has performed very well. Whist I only had room for the 4" speakers x 4, the output is more than enough even on the 9m Rib.

I wonder why it's fogging up? It may be worth a call to Fusion - or ping this chap an email...
Roy Bryan royb@fusionelectronics.com he was very helpful and sent me a replacement immediately. You'd just be swapping units, so it's very easy to do....

Does the Clarion hold an iPod within it?

I think that's the reason the Fusion is slightly bigger, it holds an iPod within it keeping it waterproof.
