Forward Looking?

I just found a "forward looking depth sounder/fish finder" i was wondering if these acutally worked? and how well? Thanks

I fitted one onto a 8m Ribtec, it did work but was much better at slow displacement speeds, it had trouble keeping up at anything over 10 knots.
