Donation of fixed VHF radio.

Hello

I am writing on behalf of a Sea Scout Group in Surrey, we are a registered charity.

We have recently aquired a new safety boat and are now looking for a fixed VHF radio to ensure the YP are as safe a possible out on the water.

Is anyone able to or know any companies that may consider a donation to us?

I know Garmin have a generous donation budget but I am having trouble contacting them.

Any support is much appreicated.
Thanks.

We might be able to help out, can you say more about how big the group is and what activities the boat will be involved in. Also what sort of boat is it?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

We currently have around 60 members and provide opportunities for people aged 6 - 18 to go kayaking, canoeing, sailing and rowing on the River Thames near Molesey Lock.

After using an ancient fibreglass Dory for some years, it was necessary to upgrade our safety boat to something a bit more reliable and 'seaworthy'. We went with a Rigiflex Newmatic 400 (as below) which seemed be the most suitable for our needs. Since owning this boat, we have been able to allow our older members to complete their RYA Powerboat awards in tidal locations, something that we weren't previously able to do with the Dory.

A VHF radio would be a very beneficial donation to us, particularly as we are now exploring the options of coastal boating.

Any support is very much appreciated.
Thanks

Max Harvey

I have seen your boat on Tidal Thames if I remember correctly about four weeks ago there was a sailing event...

Not sure if Handheld would be any good, a friend of mine does have a few...

Are you sure it was our boat? We haven't attended any sailing events recently.

Handhelds would be perfect. I was stuck trying to find a position for the antenna anyway.

Could be an idea to contact Icom, as you're a registered charity and provide training

I suggested the same and sent Max contact details for Icom. Though presumably Mailspeed have been more helpful.
