Cillit Bang

I've just discovered quite how awesome Cillit Bang is on corroded electrical connectors. They don't look like new but not far off and all you have to do is spray/rinse.

That's got to be ideal for those horribly corroded electronics plugs we sometimes get.

The reason they are named like that... is they don't have to change so much of the labelling/branding when marketing in non-English speaking countries.... it's pretty pronounceable no matter where you are from.

But, yeah... it sounds stupid... but it is good stuff.

I know that but with products like Cif - Olay - Snickers and Starburst they were already very well known names that had a fortune spent getting them recognized - then they changed the names. Then they have to spend a fortune adverttising them again and get all the packaging changed etc etc.

Even the mighty Coca Cola coked up big style and changed the formula to make it more modern - they only put it back after a public backlash - you just don't mess with a classic!!!

http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/newcoke.asp

They actually used Swansea as a test marketing area - my mother ran a shop and loads of people complained so she took it up with Coca Cola themselves - we had a rep call saying that they thought nobody would notice the diffeence etc - ended up giving us about a years supply free!!!

Then there was the idiot who spent millions changing BP's logo - only for it to be changed back again. How do these people stay in jobs I wonder?

Not to mention the muppet who thought "The Post Office" was too old fashioned

Interesting, I have a thingy of Cillit Bang somewhere so I must try it. Wonder if it works on furry battery terminals as well?

It did when I tried it on an old terminal I removed because it was U/S. Not sure how it'd do on the battery itself.

There are plenty of other products out there with stupid names - I mean imagine asking in a chemist for Anusolve or Arselone - or even worse Vagisolv. Can't do their sales any good!!!

Why Cod, we think SEAL IT BANG is a wonderful name! Is there any reason we shouldn't? I especially like the Bang part as I have banged many things in my life, with a hammer and other more specialized tools of course...

It is also used to acidify foods and beverages such as various colas, but not without controversy as to its health effects. It provides a tangy taste, and being a mass-produced chemical, is available cheaply and in large quantities. The low cost and bulk availability is unlike more expensive natural seasonings that give comparable flavors, such as ginger for tangyness, or citric acid for sourness, obtainable from lemons and limes. (However most citric acid in the food industry is not extracted from citrus fruit, but fermented by Aspergillus niger mold from scrap molasses, waste starch hydrolysates and phosphoric acid.)

AKA Coca Cola
