Charts wanted for older Garmin GPSMap 178c

With my new (used) Zodiac I have inherited a 2006 Garmin GPSMap 178c Sounder, now discontinued.

Does anyone know where I can buy used charts - BlueCharts - for it ? I need UK South West and London - Garmin have none remaining.

I have the same plotter, the charts are very rare, but do appear on eBay from time to time.

Some retailers still have them in stock, but the new price for a 5 year+ old chart is eye watering.

Keep watching and keep your finders crossed.

If you can find a programmer and blank card on ebay then program it from Mapsource, not sure what it will cost but cheaper than buying one from a chandler - Not sure if it's allowed but I downloaded the built in charts from my 555s so an SD card to use on my Mac with Homeport.

I had the 276c and the charts on my PC were locked to the unit, I guess the only way is to see if you can get the charts that were used with the unit or new ones you can unlock. I still have the charts on disc, if I remember correctly hey let you use them on two units, so if someone has them and only unlocked to one unit you could see if you could 'borrow' the spare unlock

I have a GPSMap 188 and bought a chart card from a chap on E-bay. Just tried to find his details, but must have deleted them. Although delivery was an age in coming, when it arrived, it worked no problem.

Sorry can't be of more use.

I'll keep looking for his details.

I have an old GPSMap 188 with a card for the South East of England. Not much use to me in West of Scotland!!! If it can be "reprogrammed" I would be very interested.

My chart was for St Georges channel area, does that answer your "reprogramming" question?

I also have a 178C Garmin plotter/sounder unit and cant get any updated maps. The unit has a map on a card from year 2000, Garmin dont do one anymore. The chart is out of date and shows for examples buoys with wrong numbers and incurrate positions in Poole Harbour.

would also like to know how I could update it if anyone knows or finds out.
