Chartplotter for boat and car?

I think Garmin make a GPS chart plotter that can be used in a car as well as on a boat but do any other companies do them and are they any good? I imagine they are a jack of all trades, master of none type affair.

If there is a model out there that is actually quite good, how does it interface with the car and boat in terms of power?

Cheers,

Tim

I've got one of these ;

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=148&pID=416

for the boat - bloody expensive & never bothered in the car as I have new one with it built it ( and an old Garmin Street pilot anyway) . It does everything big plotters do , but runs for 8 hours on its own battery & can plug into 12v sockets , or be hard wired to the boat.

Was an exmaple in RIB magazine of newer marine/ car ones that would do most of the stuff you need. I just 'like' Garmin as I trust them from flying .......

I don't really want a hand held one so with that in mind I don't think its worth spending £500 odd on that garmin one that will do both when I can buy two separate dedicated systems for roughly the same and they'll probably do a better job.

Geonav also do a unit called the 5 Touring, this is a 5" plotter that come on a quick release bracket and can also use the land & sea charts and again does voice turn by turn guidence.

Interesting, are they any good? Don't seem to be that many google results for dealers. I can't see they would fit on a car dash all that well though.

Get an Ipod or a HTC touch HD - they do most things a laptop can.

My HTC is excellent and runs things like memory map and tom tom very well. Also you can use Google Earth if you have signal so you can see exactly where you are!!!
