Budget Garmin GPS - good bad or ugly?

Garmin removable GPS. For budget navigation around Anglesey, and for a boat left on a mooring, this seems like a no brainer. Maps for British Isles included and can be connected to transducer that we have already, attached to a fixed mount knackered GPS. Any opinions?

I've had this (almost, mine is non-chirp) Garmin for over two years and it's faultless for my use. In particular the quick release cradle is very handy. At the price you are sort of buying the pre-loaded charts and getting the unit for peanuts.

I have the same unit and it works fine. I also found the charts for sale on eBay for peanuts which makes it a very cheap unit if you don't need to pay the Garmin price for them.
If I remember correctly they were advertised as used but they were clearly a new copy of the latest bluechart

RIBase
I have one too, with depth sounder (tranducer on stern). Really good, couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Cheers, we have a transducer in hull linked to a Navman depth and fishfinder (very outdated but works) I assume that the lead wouldn’t work to the Garmin? Considering just buying Garmin for Nav. We don’t dive, but occasionally fish, and it’d be good to have depth in line of sight, but not critical.

The Garmin sometimes (always maybe, I forget as I didn't need it) comes with an adaptor to go from it's plug type to another... perhaps message them to see if it's compatible with yours?? This item mentioned in your link... "8-pin transducer to 4-pin sounder adapter cable".

Also they do these adaptor cables... might any suit your situation?

Scroll about two thirds of the way down the page.

Well, ordered it. Discontinued model, hence going cheap! [emoji106]

ID:	123517 comes with this “8 pin transducer to 4 pin sounder adapter”. No idea what this means, or what I need, or if it’s even possible.
