I have replaced the original Poly planar speakers with 6.5" Clarions.
The supplier says send them back and they are under warranty so I will probably have a brand new pair I don't need shortly.
It now seems to work OK, will need a trip out to make sure it lasts as it seemed to die after a while and gradually got worse.

Well its not sorted, amplifier still cuting out after a short time playing.
Now stripped out for sending back under warranty, starting to wish I had just bought earphones for the MP3 player now rather than try to make it play through speakers!

You'll get there in the end Bruce .. these things are sent to try us, could be the amp is now faulting too especially if its had a good roasting before now, something else might be damaged in there. What was the model number of the kit, and did it come with a harness ?

Its just difficult to get to buried deep inside the console.
Talking to the supplier today it does sound like a duff speaker has damaged the amplifier as it still overheats.
It the bog standard Poly planar 50w kit, which no-one else seems to ever had problems with so far!

I had already sent the Poly Planar speakers back as defective and now the Amplifier is going back as well, even before the speakers have returned.
I have decided to ask for a refund as it is more bother than it is worth and hasn't worked properly since installed. The amplifier is cutting out after a few minutes use.
So, last night I ordered a Sony CDX-HR70 and have already bought and fitted a set of Clarion speakers.
The next thing is to see where I can buy a very small set of speakers to make it a full four speaker system. The only ones I can find online are Poly Planar @ 3" and I don't want them. Anybody now of another type less than 4" in diameter that are marine type and shielded for use near a compass?

Music on Rib

While I'm out riibbing I just prefer to use my Ipod.

The reason for me just using my ipod is because you wont run your battery in your boat down, which powers a lot of the rib such as a VHF Marine Radio and other instrumnets ect you know about all that stuff.

Also using a fixed fm/am radio on s boat with speakers can obstruct saftey equipment on a boat such as the radio, as you may not be able to hear the VHF with your speakers of you fm/am radio on.

With you Ipod/mp3/mp4 players you can have one ear phone in one ear while the other is lieing out which means you can monitor engine sounds along with VHF marine radio ect.

I prefere this method, and you can also feel the saftey using this method. Hope this helped!

I think its nice to have some ambient sound though , if you've stopped in a wee bay for some lunch say, or a tinny, and a good chinwag with some crew you havnt seen for a whiley whilst the sun beats down

Really? I've always preferred the sound of silence. It's so rare I get to hear it that I really do appreciate it.

If you're able to fit 5,1 inch in the holes you have for the speakers, kicker has some very good speakersystems. Shielded etc etc......

Or if you have an A-frame.... you can go for the tower speakers, especially for ankering next to a big yacht.......
