Best value GPS for around £300

A customer is looking to purchase a GPS unit for a fishing boat he's just bought from me. He has around £300 to spend and wants it to be a new unit. He's got a fish finder (eagle) already but would consider a combined unit if possible. Colour is a must. He's only going to use it inshore/local waters but as it's his first boat he wants "all the gear".

I'm not really up on the latest/best models so does anybody have any input or experience of a particular unit at or around that budget ? And even better a link to a well priced site would be perfect

Cheers

+1 on the Garmin 451 / 451s, comes with full detail UK maps, not a base map like others.

Thanks, that's who I normally use but I'm hoping somebody can give an insight into their own experiences with their unit so I can suggest something to him that appears to get good reviews.

The Garmin 451 looks a decent option though, cheers

Yeah, thats what i had, its a good unit easy to use as well for the price, but it dosn't come with a transducer they are £50 on top ,you will need that for the fishfinder

You need the 451S if you intend to connect a transducer.

Pm sent for quote. Cheapest I've found is £296 for the 451 and £354 (plus trans) for the 451s. Thats from MNC website advised above, who i normally use anyway. Both ex VAT as I'll claim that back.

That's with "Free blue charts" but does anybody know if those are the standard preloaded charts normally included anyway or is that the enhanced "G2 vision" charts which go 3D ? That's normally £100 odd on it's own I thought !!!

Anybody find a better deal out there ?

Cheers

Peter,

G2 is the standard preloaded chart, the 'G2 Vision' does 3D, sat imaging & autoroute etc.

451s is the unit that accepts a transducer.
