Has anybody ever used the snap on type and if so how did they perform

Terrible Billy Haven't used them on the boat, had them on the mower & they were sh1te. The last thing you want is a battery lead coming off with the engine running, chances are it'll fry your engine charging circuit. I always use clamps or studs with stainless Nylocs on boats.

Dunno what you mean by snap-on? If it's crimped then run a mile. I lost an EMM and a day on the water to crimped ends - work of the devil. You can't tell if they're loose by looking

I'd assumed it was this type

The clip on type are rubbish. We tried them on clay pigeon trap batteries. They only lasted weeks !

Yes it was Dave. I was only interested as I always do as you do. I don't trust anything else.

We had that type on the Ribcraft for a few years, in quite an exposed position at the back of the boat. Considering the environment they were in, and the fact that they were unclipped at the end of every day's use, they actually lasted quite well. Longer than some of the electrical bits on the other boats — if I remember rightly, we've replaced two isolators on each of them in the same time.

They clamped on to the terminal quite strongly, and I don't recall ever having problems with them, except forgetting to connect them and the battery box being in an awkward place. But they never really felt completely trustworthy.

The battery was moved back under the console for this year, and the quick connectors replaced with nuts. It's a much neater arrangement.

Just have to hope the isolator lasts a bit better on this boat.

Very popular on caravans. On which they seem to be fine.
I use the normal bolt ones on the boat.

I used the clip on type on my last RIB. Didn't have a problem with the design I chose but I can't seem to find in on the tinterweb, I'll keep searching and will post if I happen upon it. I've no experience of the ones shown in Pikey Daves link but some look pretty crap!

I've got the correct crimping tool. If it's done properly they don't come loose-but you need the correct tool for the size of cable.
