I've harked on about this before, but you don't need a split dual charging relay or anything other than a 1-2-Both-Off isolator switch and a good Volt meter for twin battery setups. This keeps your cost lower and improves reliability of your electrical system.

Clamchowder would be better sticking to a single battery setup if he hasn't the room for a twin. Fit at least a sealed for life 100 amp combined leisure/start battery and if possible always go for the biggest capacity battery you can fit aboard. Also look at the cranking amps and go for the highest you can get.

If you want some double redundancy buy a second battery and good quality jump leads or be prepared to swap out the battery at Sea.

Hope this helps you.

I have had this battery on the boat for 8 years no problems with it at all.
100 4 stroke yam, radio and vhf only.

Will definitely get another one if and when this one packs up.

I've bought from these people. Always a fast service and if you keep Chickens you never have to worry about having enough egg cartons after.

Numax batteries seem to do a fair range and are at a very good price point: Numax Marine Batteries - Marine/Boat Batteries

im short of space so only one battery, had car batteries in the past but had problems with partially discharging over time, one i have now is a numax leisure battery which has always held charge - even over winter, and never failed to spin the engine over and start it. personally thats what im happy to stick with, though i do know that there are good and bad batteries, but for a small open rib with limited electronics then i dont see a need to spend a fortune. also at the very first sign of any weakness i will buy new and put the old one on the caravan, rather than waiting for it to die.
