Ballistic 6.5 & 7 Electronics

I have a Ballistic 6.5, and the fish finder is on its last legs – so I want to replace this and the plotter but as its mounted into the console I need something that will fit in the same holes, or a larger one – As I don’t know how successful I would be at creating a panel that didn’t look like a mess, or a panel that had been put on to hide holes.

I wanted to see if anyone had replaced the Lawrence X102c that was fitted to these consoles, and what you had gone for? I like the Garmin units, and would love a 700 series wide screen unit.

if it all fails I will have to use Lawrence 5 series I think

You'll struggle to find a single unit that will cover both of those holes up. If it were mine, I'd remove them along with all of the engine gauges, install a nice neat carbon fibre (r similar) panel and then reinstall the gauges with the new plotter to the left. If you don't fancy making a panel your self, take a few measurements and a photo and get in touch with these chaps: Wiring Looms : Brian Ward - supplying marine equipment since 1975.
They'll CNC the whole thing for you so it looks really neat and tidy. You can even get your boat name / call sign etc engraved onto it for added bling.

Yeah I think I am going to have to create a panel, I have a family member who is a skilled fabricator so will get him to knock something up, but I am unsure of how it will look with the bend of the console and how it will fit - as if its not a perfect fit and bits can get behind it then I will be miffed!

I would like to see a photo of anyone who has a Ballistic 6.5 or 7 to see the layout (if its not the standard) if it was the same as mine.

Now they have changed it, and this is what I would love to have

Why not have the holes all fibreglassed in?

Photos attached. It's just ply covered in gel, simples and it doesn't show at all where the old holes used to be.

The only holes untouched were the old icommand ones and the ignition switch and steering wheel. All the others were filled and their owners either swapped or moved. Should have got a picture when it was filled in really. The glovebox and the trim tab switches just had to be moved over a little bit to let everything else fit. We looked at carbon fibre panels like those from carbon weezel but they are just as expensive.
