2017 : Standard GX6500

Anyone look at the new Standard Horizon GX6500?

Class B AIS transceiver (not receive only!) integrated. Still needs two antennas though.

My next boat will get one...

Have you seen the price tag? So what's the advantage appart from space and a tiny bit less wiring? If one part breaks - who unit needs replaced...

$800 to $1000 usd msrp.

Less labor to install, no risk of compatibility problems, SH warranty, etc.

I get the slightly easier install but its one extra power lead and 4 data wires unless I'm mistaken.

UK price I saw was ~ £850.

An iCOM MA500TR would cost £500, M323 £200. £150 difference. No concerns about compatibility

I just feel like I'm missing something!

MA500TR alone is $899 USD MSRP

Ah...

So we commonly see things priced £ = $ and that seems about where the SH set is to be pitched... but I guess iCom are not on the same wavelength...

I do follow the logic of not being so easy to get all the features like call AIS target via DSC if you start mixing kit.

Be interesting to see what happens to the UK prices...

I'm sure SH will run a bunch of rebates. Sellers will sell at 10-20% below MSRP.

I'm excited though! Finally can have AIS on my little boat so I can worry less about the container traffic in Charleston.
