12V power inverter

Hi all - not stictly for on board use but I need a 12v power inverter to power a laptop from my car while out and about on the water. I may even use it to power the lappy while afloat if I get brave.. i would like to spend as little as possible but dont want to smoke anything in the process. Any ideas about resonable ones for this purpose?

Why don't you get a 12v DC-DC power adaptor instead? That way, you can go from 12v to 18v, or whatever voltage your laptop needs, rather than 12v - 240v - 18v and do so with only one appliance.

yes - saves the power wastage , some of these are more expensive than ac inverting though...

Great idea and something i didnt think of. But that's what forums are for eh? I cant see me needing to run anything other than the laptop so seems the best solution.

Thanks for all of the replies folks
