I consider to buy an Osprey Vipermax 7. If the engine has to be a Yamaha 200 hpdi or a Yamaha 200 hpdi VMAX what is the best choice and what exact are the differences in particulary performance and fuel consumption?

Well I can say anything about the HPDI, but the VMAX is a thirsty little friend
It's a very nice engine but at full speed it will consume something around 40-50 liters per hour.

I know this will be less when not at WOT, but I think the HPDI is more fuel economic (Can you even use this word with a 200 HP 2 stroke outboard)

Rene, i think you are talking about the VMAX that you have that is thirsty, know you can get the VMAX in HPDI and they are great engines.
I think you should go for the VMAX HPDI, it`s also a very nice looking engine.

Rene I think Petrov is right. My 2stroke VMax consumes at full throttle about 2 ltrs/mile and I think oil in similar quantities too .
However, I think the VMax HPDI is a great engine less consumption than the 2stroke VMax and great performance. Actually in all VMaxes after 4500-5000 revs when the VMax thing kicks in you get 225bhp

Cookee I don't know exactly but the VMax technology (according to my engineer) gives 25bhp more to the engine at high revs - over 4500 VMax starts working (i.e 150 VMax = 175 bhp, 200Vmax = 225 bhp). Therefore, the engine keeps having power and torque even at 5500 revs going to 6000. This is correct (not the 25 extra bhp as I don't know whether is 100% correct or not but the acceleration and torque) as I have seen this acceleration and torque effect with my engine.
If you want more details I can ask but this is what I'm told.
If on the other hand someone knows something else please let us know.

JW the consumption is 1.2 ltrs/mile @ 3000-3800 revs and over that it increases to reach 2ltrs/mile @ 6000

I think you ought to get your engineer to tell Yamaha about this - I'm sure they could get more money for their engines if they changed the labels!

On the other hand as you say yourself maybe you are mistaken as I find it hard to imagine Yamaha saying thier engines produced less power than they actually do!

I did'nt know that you could get the VMAX in a HPDI version. The one I was talking about was the "normal" VMAX 2 stroke like the one I have, without HPDI.
The one I have is very nice and I don't really have any problems with it, execpt the fuel consumtion.

Rene, I just reconditioned a counter rotating prop 150VMax.
Have not had the time to put it in the water yet but from what I'm told is fast.
The engine I bought from the UK damaged and in bits and brought it in Greece to repair it by Yamaha here.
From a close examination we found that it possibly had turned upsidedown in the water (the crank shaft had over reving marks on it) and the engine had taken water in but nothing major from what it transpired
The question now is how fast it will go and how much it actually consumes. Is it the same as the 200VMax? Can you give please us an idea on the consuption levels? Appreciate it
Yamaha here tells me at WOT about 1.8 ltrs/mile and cruising 1.3 ltrs/mile. But I recon is much too much.

I understod that, i had a 225 Vmax and that one was also really thirsty, but the HPDI Vmax are great engines.
Can definetly recomend them.
