Yamaha Gearbox housing

Hi all,

Re: Yamaha 70

I bought my first rib last summer but unfortunatly fell foul of a rock in the river and took the fin off my gearbox. ALso a small part of the underside of the gearbox. The boat still runs fine but looks terrible and I'm considering upgrading so it might be harder to sell with the damage. I've tried searching online for the housing but to no avail. The engine im told is mid 90's.

Is changing the housing a labourious job?

If anyone knows where i might find a second hand housing i'd be mucho greatfull.

Thanks

A secondhand housing of that age is unlikely to be feasable. Replacing with a new housing will cost more in parts and labour than you'll lose by selling with the damaged unit on there. There's a load more parts will need changing than just the housing. It'll need a full seal kit for a start and possibly other parts too depending on the level of damage to your existing unit.

Best suggestion I can give you is either get a new skeg welded on to tidy it up a bit,or buy a used complete lower unit as it'll be cheaper than the parts and labour to transfer your old internals to a new case.
