Do the phrases "as a badger's bum" and "bucket of nails" mean anything to you?

Not the smoothest idle (in fact possibly the roughest I've ever come across on a properly tuned outboard, but not surprising as it's a big-ish CC Long stroke 2 cyl.

i have a yamaha 55AE

Hi all,

just reading through your posts, Just like to say that i have a Yamaha 55AE and like you all say its very very hard to get much info on this engine.

From what i have learnt it was manufactured between 1974-79 (dont know my exact year as it does not have a year letter in the bottom corner of the serial plate)

I have been looking for a service manual for this engine for a long while but have never found one. Does any one have one ?

There are a couple of pictures of my boat and engine here

http://www.easy-cb.com/boat

I have problems with mine as it has the wrong size prop for my boat and weight but trying to get around this issue.

I needed a simple plastic part for the throttle and rang up bhg marine and ever they could find the engine in there book as it only went back to 1984 but he did manage to find th part i needed, i should have ask him how.

Would love to find a parts manual and/or service manual, does any one know about one anywhere ?

Cheers all

Budbecks,

Firstly Welcome to ribnet!

Yeah, I wasted many hours looking too....

I have a Clymer for it that's no use to me now (see my previous posts for the tale of woe). No idea what the postage is going to be like, but depending where you are I may be able to drop it off on the way past sometime at the beginning of October if you can wait that long. PM me if you are interested.

For an exploded diagram if you go to http://www.ishopmarine.com/ishop/sec/partlists/ and click on "Mariner" the 55 in there is basically that engine with a respray.

i downloaded a copy of the 84 onwards manual that covers 2 cyld models similar to these
easy to find on a torrent site but finding anything pre 1984 is like finding hens teeth

Hi Ollyit

I would love it if you could get in contact with the guy you sold it to. I cant find another copy anywhere.

If i can get hold of a copy i will scan it for everyone to use.

I have brought the "Mariner Seloc 1400 outboards 1977-89, covers all 2-60hp 1 and 2 cylinder 2 stroke models"

this manual is great and has a lot of info but its not specific enough for me.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Budbecks
