Yam 30 query

I have just ( nearly) aquired a older yam 30 2s. Manual tilt trim and not even sure if its electric start ! I think its the same as XS400 has on the back of his boat ?

I know the 40 & 50 are 'THE' engine for an SR and I understand to be fairly robust and long lived , but I'm wondering if the 30 has any known areas I should be overly worried about apart from the normal stuff?

Its on the back of my latest plaything to keep me busy in the summer gales...

If you've been watching Ebay (seems to be a pastime for me this summer instead of actually being able to use the boat) I am sure you will know which one I mean.

I'll try and grab some photos...

Looks a good package price. Starting to obtain quite a fleet now... Should be a good turn on it when the time comes.

Am very slowly working my way back to 'big' ribs. This time the aim is some thing like a rc 585. Just hoping the yam is ok on that Avon!

I guess that you have an SR4 from that comment?

If so that engine will be fine. I spent two happy summers at an outdoor centre where that was the "formula", but with tiller control. It's amazing how much space there is in a bare SR4 hull.....

Alas no - there was a decent SR4 with a 50 that sold for just £1550 on ebay that I missed. I have ( again ) got the lighweight sibling ..Adventure.

Thinking with such a light hull a 30 will go well - but more concerned with anything that is known to break - like is the autolube system (generally) reliable etc etc. I 'think' its a newer one ( no autolube sticker on it which I think makes it newer (ish) . I think its electric start - but have real clue at the moment. I'm hoping it is as it wil mean it wil be easier to add Nav lights etc if the wiring to the battery is in place.

Photos to be posted when I get in...

It will be no older than 1997. Nice motors, no major concern with them. Should have the power take off (needs the adapter or bypass it). Looks like a splitter to me. Motors worth almost what you paid for the package!

Thanks Peter - gives me slighlty warmer fuzzier feeling niside to hear you say that . I reckon it will be a keeper - my mate is desperate to have a little boat after selling previous big cruiser boats to fund a house extension....but as always I end up selling them before he can find the cash !

Fingers crossed for this set up and if the trailer bearings will make the 160 miles home from Kent( I'm taking spares ! ) , the tubes and boat clean up OK and the engine doesn't need anything big.
