Its back from the engineer again.

They found some water and dirt in the vapour seperator, which is now clear.
We need to check her on the water again. I am going to check the fuel hoses again to ensure they are not letting air in. We will also check the hull is not full of water, hence heavier ... however i doubt this is the case as the problem occured as we were using the boat working fine one second ... lost 1000rpm the next.

If that has not fixed it, we may have to look at the injectors .... to replace them is a £2k job! Yamaha claim they can't be cleaned, or have the filters changed on them. Does anyone know anything about these injectors?

The pain continues!

The vapour separator thing was what was wrong with mine. Your problem sounds identical to mine. Good luck!

Update:

Clearing the vapour sep hs made no difference.
We have connected a deck tank with a direct fuel line to the engine.
We hve checked the hull, its empty of water and the hull is clean.

Yet we still are lacking our top 1000rpm.

We will try the fuel pumps next but things are leading to the injectors. I am being told they are £330 each and we would need to replace 6. For a 300 hour engine this is rubbish!! Does anyone have experience of changing the injectors on a 200HPDI ... do I really have to buy new ones.

Also Yam have suggested we throw a 17inch prop on to check we can still not pull 5600 .... they want us to eliminate boat hull issues .... does anyone in Portsmouth have 17inch prop for this engine I can borrow for a few hours. I think this is a pointless test but to get Yam on my side i think I must do it.

Andy,

One way to eliminate the boat hull issues is to find someone (prob a dealer) who has a load bank. This is connected to your prop shaft (after prop removed) and the engine is then tested against the load bank - normally water. This will eliminate any hull issues, and I believe, should show whether you can achieve your top end revs. I do stand to be corrected!

Regards

Mark

hi andy
it might be worth a mail to hydro-tec or brucato to see if they could do a job on your own injectors, would be a fraction of the cost of replacement. an engine dyno or test wheel would also eliminate the hull as an issue.

this is an injector blockage

Let the injectors clean and put an yamaha water separator inside of the boat with the 10 micron filter this is needed with this engines for trouble free running

there is a filter inside of the vapor separator
and there is an filter in line with the fuel line from the vapor separator too the high pressure belt driven pump

i have heard also inside of the high pressure belt driven pump are 2 screens
(not seen by myself)

in the injectors inlet are also screens if you take them out and put them under a light you can see if they are glogged

possibly you can clean them with some brake cleaner spray can

never put the whole injector inside of some fluid this wil destroy the injector

do not run this engine too much or it will blow if injectors are glogged

pull out injectors and have a look in the screens

you need this (68F-13764-00-00) GASKET (T=2.2) 6 x
too put the injectors back in the engine

i hope you don`t need new injectors

After 6 mths of trying the engine is now fixed. We eventually took it to Kevin Mole in Cowes who took a look at it. He worked it out ...

It was 1 coil failing under load and another on the way out.

Thanks to Kevin we are on the water again!

Andy,

Glad to hear you got the boat sorted! I recently had similar issues... which after 10 months, turned out to be a coil also... only failed under high load.. so wasnt an obvious fix.

See you on the water sometime hopefully

Suprised you only get 50mph... I was getting that with my twin 115's on my boat.
