Would this be a good Aux...

..for my 5.25 metre Osprey.

I like the seaguls for their simplicity and size and would imagine they would make an excellent AUX.

Not sure what 'this' is 'cos there's no picture. Are you talking about Seagull o/b's?

I've got one of those. Used to use it on a heavy clinker dinghy. Big prop, bags of thrust. Reliable - ish (had it in the shed for over 10 years. Decided one day it was about time to give it a twirl. One pull and it started!)

They're really noisy, use a 10 to 1 fuel/oil mix (yes, 10) and tip large quantities of the stuff into your boat. You can smell a Seagull owner from the other end of the bar.

They're good at trapping your fingers too.

What you say about thrust is very true - mate of mine had a warrior with a 6 or 8hp yamaha aux - it just wouldn't push him against the tide - he tried his father's old Seagul and it coped no problem.

Do you need long or short shaft, Seagulls don't like the exhaust outlet being to deep and this one is a long shaft. Measure you transom, because I have a mint Seagull short shaft looking for a new owner.

Well 4,5, or 6hp as it was designed then isnt the same now I'll be certain. I liked the idea of the 360 degree rotation of the engine, like having a stern thruster !! in any direction, as long as you checked for keel clearance on your old clinker hull first

Pete my transom has a lip on the top so I am not sure how I would mount the Seagull I imagine I would have to have some sort of mount for it.

What model is yours and what HP?

I would use an angle grinder and cut a small section out of the lip so an outboard sits directly on the transom.

Bring it down, I know a small round chap in Sarfhampton with a workshop who will do it for ya

The alternative though is an aux bracket, think there is a spare one in my garage.
