Spirit of inverclyde?
Race boat lots of brackets get broken (amongst other things) during racing
If ferrari blows an engine in f1 does it bear any relationship to a road going ferrari
I think not!

Blimey. Straight in on the defence. Surely if it's designed for racing thats what it should be capable of ? ( or not)

It's a stock engine as it's a one design class

1 broke out of roughly 7 boats, not a very good ratio in my humble opinion ....

You could say 6 out of 7 boats survived a pounding in a race environment with stock engines and only one breakage.
In most motorsports you wouldn't be surprised at one retirement out of a field of 7 starters
They aren't new boats having all done rounds in the states hardly warrants an evinrude slagging thread
And no I don't own one!

If the information is correct......3 boats retired with bracket failure.

Have to say, my Evinrude has not missed a beat, but then the majority of engines don't miss a beat, if used as they should be used.

Failures in a race does not constitute a wholesale issue with the brand or the reliability.

Totally agree I get fed up with all the brand knocking. in a tough environment any engine will break if driven to the max
The clever bit for the drivers is to drive fast but not fast enough to break something

I merely asked a simple question ....

No,,,You asked a leading question, with a provocative picture, which then brings out the best in all of us !! not

i've seen a few broken brackets on THT forum when rudes used for racing. there is a company who makes solid brackets for using them in them for racing.

have to say, wouldn't put me off owning one for leisure but i would solid mount it with the above upgrade if racing.

i wouldn't be surprised if all engines have a habit of this TBH as it is a lot of weight bouncing around.

Its actually the solid brass mounts that can lead to a broken saddle. they are fitted to stiffen up the engine and replace the rubber mounts that are normally fitted but the force is then transmitted into the saddle.

Apparently these engines are meant to be bog standard, no modifications allowed at all ...

The saddle is reinforced with welded plates on them to toughen them but obviously they are taking so much abuse they still get broken
I think broken saddles are a perennial problem for race outboards
Engines are stock otherwise

If the engines were as big a pile of cr4p that some would have us believe, you have to ask yourself why the race boys bother with them at all..........

I would. Mine has definitely never fallen off.

I was thinking after watching the telly the other day that F1 cars have loads more crashes than ones on the road. The handling must be really rubbish

Reckon the use outboards get on RIBS is not far off what race boats get looking at some of the storey about the speed and weather that people put on here. Heard some of the Honda series boats had big Honda brackets fail but never heard of Yamaha/ Suzuki or merc engines snap off anything though .

Have heard of Evinrudes snapping on leaisure ribs a few times
