I can't say I've seen much mention of it on here. There was the unit that Kerny broke - bad casting IIRC. I googled "Evinrude Transom Failure" there's Kerny's case and a some racing HOs. The feedback on Evinrude Owners Forum was that it was rare in their experience.

Lucky for me it was replaced quickly under warranty and yes it was a bad casting .I have never heard of it happening to anyone else on the leisure circuit but there again.. Imogen does get a hammering with all the hours she puts in 😉👍

Bit of a trend going off with this Etec slagging
But speaking to a chap this morning his brother bought a new Humber 18 months ago with a 75 Hp Etec and 2 saddles have broken already so he's swapped for a Suzuki 😯 but his Humber is not good either tubes keep coming off 😳

Eh! Let's not start on Humbers!! LOL

The tubes don't fall off if you use them for what they're for... Keeping the Cardinal steady at rest.

... If someone's ripping tubes off AND snapping saddles, something tells me the skipper is possibly driving like a you know what. It'd be like taking a stock Subaru and smashing it round the forest, it'll break eventually.

Hmmm dunno about that. I drive mine hard and have never broken saddles etc and reference Humbers, Mine was undoing its self coming down the motorway from picking it up when new,It was a very fast boat with a Merc 90 on the 5.3 Ocean Pro though!

soundslike etec are trying to get weight down to claim status as light weight 2strokes and making the saddles light to help them selves out, but they are breaking as they aren't up to the job then ?

Nope.

Same brackets that have been used on Evinrudes (and others) for almost 20 years, and like any engine they can break especially if abused in racing etc.

This is just the annual e-tec bashing thread that has become quite an event on RIBnet.

It doesn't sound like anything. Yeah a few Etecs have busted saddles, a few big Suzukis and Yam HPDIs have blown their heads. If you want to search the internet for outboard horror stories, they're all there.

What exactly is your point?
