which 90hp

Hello from Greece.

I`m thinking of upgrading to a 5m rib and cannot decide on the engine.

I`m not thinking about 4 stroke because of the extra weight.

From the 2t I`m in between merc opti, tohatsu tldi and yamaha with carbs. Ppti is heavier, tohatsu is good and light but not so many mechanics know it in case something happens..............and yamaha......is yamaha.....but has carbs !!!

The use of the boat is for spearfishing and is in th water three weekends per month.

Suggestions?

Nickos

P.S. Excuse my bad english
P.S.2. The injection ones are about 1.500 Euros more to get

If there's only one repairer in town, the decision may already be made for you!

However, read about the Tohatsu TLDI here: http://www.bosunsmate.co.uk/tohatsu.htm

The Opti is in a different league altogether from others you list. Maybe, for your use, you should consider something less complex than the Opti, although to me, it is the King of 2-strokes.

I am not sure about the 90 Opti's

As the worlds number one Optimax fan I would say the best 90 hp engine, ever and still built, is the Yamaha 90 3 cylinder model, a poor equivalent of it is the Tohatsu but the three pot Yamaha is supreme.

The engine lacks sophisticated electonics and is extremely well engineered and they rarely go wrong
