when I actually spoke to the Honda dealer he pretty much matched the quote I had for an ETEC.....

Before I get shot by the pro ETEC lobby, and I don't want to just recommend what I have... as we can all do that...

an 8 metre Scorpion I use now and again has a 250ETEC on the back and it bloody rocks, the noise, the acceleration, but for low speed trolling as I mainly do with the family, the Honda suits our current needs better.....

All in the name of a reasoned debate!

Al

They dont even have an office in the UK any more and even Tohatsu do! think also of the threads with problems on ETEC's and its still a 2 stroke which if they were that good we would all have them in our cars.

either way good luck and safe boating

Dave

Okay, I take all those points, but this is my dilemma...

I can't afford the additional £1200 and I doubt very much I'll get a deal from Suzi/Yam/Honda or even Merc/Mariner for a 60hp that will match the price of the E-TEC.

So, my choice is between a smaller 4-stroke (50hp) or the E-TEC 60hp.

Btw, the E-TEC is brand new, 2012 build, not old stock.

Like Peter says, get the ETEC quote in writing and use it as a bargaining tool with the other dealers.

I'm reckoning your not going to need that extra £1200.

I think you'd be surprised what they will do - given the chance.

I'm not anti 2 strokes -infact I am a fan of the noise if nothing else , Yam & Honda have decades of 4stroke development behind them ...Etecs are the odd one out for me. I'm all for being differant , but when does differant become 'quirky' ?

The place where I've got my rib is selling Suzuki df60's. They were by far the best price when I bought a df140 last year.

DF60ATL £8000. BBPR price £6365.

How much have you been offered the etec for ?

Peter.

My pal has a 9m Cheetah with twin Honda 135's that he uses for creel fishing, when I was out with him the other day I noticed the engines hour clocks, there was 7100 hours on each, I remarked on the high hours and he said that they have never missed a beat!

He's hoping for 10-12k hours out of them before he changes them.

He did also mention that the servicing was pricey.

Let's just say that I've been offered the DF60 for less than that, and the E-TEC is a further £1200 less again.

But I'll take the earlier advice, get the quote in writing, and then hawk it around the 4-stroke dealers at the boat show next week.

It's a Walker Bay Generation 430 - probably not many people's choice but it suits my purpose.
