Have a look at this pdf & scroll down a little to "Model number designation"... "model years 1980-1998"

http://shop.evinrude.com/media/docum...rReference.pdf

The first greyed put letter you don't have... then E for Evinrude... 25hp... BA for rope start with lighting coil... no shaft length letter as it's a standard 15"... CN for 1982... and your last B is a greyed out model run/suffix you can ignore. Do you reckon the same?

If so your manual is here...

It's a very good engine! 2-cylinder 25hp, very light weight.

I believe the engine eventually evolved in to the 2-cyl 35hp / 55hp that the US Military used from about 1990 through about 2000 or so?

Check the compression and check for lower unit damage / water contamination. If both items check out, then I would run it!

This is the same as our first Evinrude.
We bought ours new to go on the back of a tired C-Craft and then a Avon S400. It was a fantastic engine so stayed with the same make ever since.

Brought back a lot of happy memories seeing the photo.

Have fun with yours.

Agree totally with Office888, and add while the plugs are removed look inside each cylinder and inspect the top of each piston for white-ish particles such presence is a sign the engine overheated at some point. Great engines but often ran into water pump issues. The lower unit check, if not seized - hand turning, can be checked by removal of the lower unit lubricant plug checking for anything milky looking. Good Luck, they were pretty-good engines!
