What engine to get ?? tell me what you think

Well it looks like I will go shopping for a new 90Hp outboard engine.
I am going to get the engine in the US. And have it shiped over.

I use the boat just in summer and just for fun so maybe 40 day's a year.( around 100 hrs a year )

Now I was looking at a new johnson 2 stroke that go's for around 5000$ and the evinrude E-tec for 6900$.
So that makes a difference of 1900$.

Now I was wondering if I should spit out the extra 1900$ and get the E-tec or go for the johnson.
I think it is a big difference for what I use the boat for and how much I use it.

What do you all think...

Thanks,

Stef

Johnson = old 2-stroke technology, Evinrude E-Tec = Way To Go, Dude! You use your boat more than enough to justify the extra expense.

I looked at new outboards last fall. If I had decided to buy a NEW one, it would have been the E-Tech for sure. Better fuel economy and lower maintainence costs than the Johnson. Much lower weight than Mercury or any 4 stroke for the same output. Just as clean as a 4 stroke. Plus a major "cool" factor to me.

But I wound up with a used Mercury for a fraction of the cost of the E-Tech, so what do I know Maybe someday I'll put my money where my mouth is and actually buy one!

Have you considered the tohatsu 90hp TLDI? They're supposed to be pretty good and probably considerably cheaper than the e-techs.

Cheers

Good thinking - have read some really good stuff about this engine!!! They are actually made by Nissan.

You obviously looked at the price of the Tohatsu in the USA - the ONLY reason most outboards are cheaper in the States is because the dollar is crap - as the Tohatsu is NOT built in the states you may find it is cheaper in your own country!!!

yeah that surpises me that the tohatsu isn't that much cheaper. I would've thought it would have been considerably cheaper.
