I don't think the Selva's are built by Yam, I think they are back-engineered based on a Yam, just like Ocean & Parsun was but with lesser quality. I've had a few pass through to judge

The 2 strokes I'd avoid at all costs, much like you would with the Force engine. The 4 strokes do seem better. I've only had a few 4hp 4 strokes but they always looked clean and did what you wanted. I ran with one as aux on my own boat for about 2 years and it never failed me. Never needed it mind but it always started before we went out.

I'd much rather a Tohatsu 9.8 s stroke to a 9.9hp Selva 4 stroke and that's not just because I have one (2006 black model) soon to be available

That being said I'd rather a Tohatsu (or Yam/Merc) 2 stroke over any 10hp 4 stroke on a Sib/small Rib simply because of the weight. The fuel saving is not enough at that level to sway me, neither is the noise/smell IMHO

My Selva was 100% Yamaha, if you look at the current Selva and Yamaha engine specs they are identical.

Parts for mine came out of a yamaha packet....
