Afternoon,

im looking for first hand experience of peoples Verados. have they been as reliable as everyone is making out?

Are they as efficient as the claims make out?

I see they are releasing a 4 cylinder 200 HP model as well as the 6 Cylinder 200 hp model. any suggestions on relative benefits of both?

also, what do the smart guages actually do???

I should think there will be a massive weight saving - the Verado is very heavy for it's power output.

Hi

Firstly I have run one for 75 hours now and my experiances are on the whole very positive.

The power delivery is a real rush, feels like a powerful car, smooth and progressive, although in the case of my boat not quite the performance I expected at WOT about knots short of my expectations, but in reality that does not matter I guess.

The silent running is a real treat and something that never gets old, the power steering and DTS throttle are a real joy to and make driving the boat very tactile and relaxing.

My engine is not the most economical in the world but I think that weighed up against all the other costs of boating its not such a big deal. It is about ..2 of a litre per mile more thirsty than my Opti 225, that is about 20p, so not such a big deal unless your on a strict budget or doing really big miles.

The Smart Gauges give you all sorts of useful info including fuel usage, average fuel usage, fuel to waypoint, cog, speed from GPS or paddle and various engine management screens. Overall the whole package works really well and feels very luxorious, I would buy again in a second.

Finaly there is a great website at www.veradoclub.com the guy that runs it is a bit short at times but never not had a question answered correctly and quickly.

I'm sure I read that the new 4 cyl 200hp is the lightest 200hp 4-stroke on the market? Takes away the biggest disadvantage of the weight issue! Any more info?

so the 275 is only .2 L per mile more expensive than the 225 opti.? that sounds pretty good to me seeings as you have an extra 50 horses to feed.

I agree and when you take into account the 2 stroke oil required its cheaper still, however it does not have quite the same performance. It is not an exact comparison as new boat is longer and heavier and the old boat was stepped hull but Happy Hours is slower than Tickled Pink, however the engine refinement is wonderful.

On the weekend of the 7th and 8th of July Barrus are doing a Verado open day at Hamble point marina, lots of Verado engined boats taking people out for rides, I will be there, happy for you to helm my boat if you can make it down.

Not bad at all - then again the Mercury 300xs is only 229kgs!!! - that's 100hp extra..........

Why not the new 300 Verado at 288kg... only 59kg more then the 2-stroke.

What do you put the engine on...?

If you must have a 4-stroke and it´s ok with a 175hp, go for the suzuki 4 cyl with only 213kg. If i saw right in ribmagazine the warranty in uk on suzi is very nice.

As you understund i am not a mercury fan..

Not sure yet. will be somehthing around the 6.5 meter mark.
