The Lynx 26 with a Verado 350 would be a great setup.

Great info - especially the fuel figures - one last question - what pitch prop on the single?

Verado 350 Sci

Hi!

Thanks!

Just a few more questions; the gearcase of the 350 Sci is larger than Optimax 300XS gearcase (Torquemaster & Fleetmaster). Have you ever compared them? I am thinking added drag.

What kind of propheight do you run on the ribs? When I had a single promax 300 I ran the propshaft 2 inches - 2,5 inches below the bottom. I need that propshaft height to get the speed I want, so the question is if the lowerunit for 350 Sci allows that (water pressure and internal strength).

My boat weights out at 750 kg without engine, no fuel, no gear and no passenger. How heavy is the rib with one 350 Sci? I am not afraid of the engine weight (300 kg).

Cheeers, ToffenG

Havent compared them but they are hughe and no probs with them yet.
From bottom cavitation plate to bottom hull on the tripple it was 4 inch on the middle engine 3,2 inch on side engines, on the single engine we had 3,4 inch, this is hard to compare because boats are so different, these are good setup for speed and loads on these boats, for only speeds we could raise them higher.

Those figures confirmed what I was hoping - if I fit a Verado to my boat I should get not only a higher top speed but also better fuel economy at cruising speeds - a big engine at 1/2 throttle is better than a smaller one 3/4.

At 45mph it does about 4mpg which isn't bad at all.

Well as you'll now be only running one gear case , is that such an issue ?

Also your transom weight isnt goint to be a whole lot different,.. but the lack of noise is sure going to be

Plus your only looking at one service a year for those hours 'maximum' and no oil to buy

They do get mounted very high, and you must get your transom checked for height before fitting to make sure the fit is good as its essential for best performance

Verado 350 Sci

Hi!

When two engines I have 600 hp in total, but two lower units dragging. With 350 hp the lower unit drag is also a substantial. But since the proshaft height will be approx. 2 inches below, I presume the new lower unit to be just as fast as a standard torquemaster.

The 2.5 efi's hydraulics, fuel systems and dual ram steering & tie bar are at the transom, the total weight is approx. 430 kg. With the Verado 350 the weight will approx. 320 included the powerlift.

The transom is like a rock despite its being 25 years old. I have also made some bracings with steel tubes through to the stringers. See picture.

Have anyone of you compared the speed with a Verado 300 vs Optimax 300XS and Verado 350 Sci on the same boat?

Cheeers and thanks! ToffenG

To be honest if I had that rig and it was reliable I would stick with the twin setup - it will be much more stable offshore with counter rotating props - of course you should gain in fuel consumption with a brand new single motor, but a single prop won't handle as well IMHO.
