opti alternator

try widening the search that alternater is also fitted to see below either Mercury or Mariner
135 opt
150 opt and efi
175 opti
200 efi
you will find it is only the fairly modern efi that will fit

i'm not much on outboards but one thing i was thinking is, has this engine got a regulator box separate from the alternator, might it be that, take the alternator to a repair place that just specialise in alternators you'll probaly find its just a diode gone

No need to, Dan. The alternator never left my garage.
Glad you got it sorted in the end - sounded like it was all snowballing into a bit of a mess at one point. Well done.

Probably. He had a problem, it was going to bugger up his charters so he found a way to get it sorted - thats what I would expect/hope for from a charter company - but I expect in some cases it would have been a phonecall the day before to say "sorry engines not working, charters cancelled"

Oh, and he obviously appreciates the help he got from various people which is a good sign!

Polwart....

that has been the case....we are currently a small one boat operation who always send the boat out in first class condition. That is why we have the clients we have and why they value the service we provide.

To miss a charter obviously has serious ramifications for us and our clients. The forum has been an incredible help in getting this sorted..with most of the work happening behind the scenes....lots of phone calls and chasing around the country being assisted as we go by RIBnetters.

I should also note and thank Tristan who has been holding a boat for me as back up (so that contracts /charters could be honoured).

I think Linda was probably joking albeit a little unfortunate in it's tone. Not sending a / the boat was not an option for us.

Reputation is everything. However, I would still not hesitate to use the forum to rectify problems...I'm sure we would not have been in a position to head back out on charter (with a large public sector body) next week had we not.

Dan

Yes, comes across as a very nice bloke

Not sure what is meant by the Ir(u)ish dig, some of the best boats and most extreme ribbers come from that neck of the woods !

My work here is done!

Apologies Garf (if you're reading this)....no offence intended. I didn't mean to cast aspersions on your family

Clearly another invaluable contribution from ms. Linda.
Yes I would charter a boat from this guy, he has the good sense to seek help in fixing a problem, whatever may be ms. Lindas problem with the Irish it is clearly not a view supported by anyone else here.
After many years on the game, Linda is now happily retired in Mexico, however she has an unshakable dislike of the Irish, clearly all the years spent on her back have caused an excessive jiz build up on the brain manifesting itself in the need to post senseless garbage.
