From what I've read it's not that as you would hear the engine tilting down if the switch was intermittently operating on its own. It appears here that the engine simply loses its hold under load.

My opti used to 'trim' down if it reved over a certain amount and was in the 'tilt' range on the tilt/trim.... if that makes sense.

It was a bugger running in shallow water when it did this

Makes sense to me.

Similar thing on the inboards that won't start in not in the trim range....

In the meantime, move the "manual" trim pin up to a suitable hole as a "get you by".
