Seems a lot of hassle and debate here,
If you want PM me your number if you are near Fife and I'll get it painted (with 2k) and baked at work for much cheapness.
Problem solved.

So, It would be good to keep it "original" -has anyone tried overpainting topcoat & been successful?

I am thinking that if it's already painted gloss, I will probably need to get it down to the metal to allow primer to stick properly, and that;s going to be a LOT of work, so can anyone reccommend a top coat that will stick straight onto the old topcoat? (and yes, I know I'll need to sand it to give it a half decent surface to key to if such a paint exists)

Alternatively, I go find a suitable mariner coloured lid........ (which is probably easier!)
I had an evinrude over painted for 150 by the dealer i use, and the paint came off in the water, so i took it back to him and it look like he,s done a proper job now ,but iv not had engine back in the water yet to see if it stays on

But that's standard Ribnet Protocol...... To fully comply someone will now need to ask why I'm bothering to rebuild such an old heap and why not go and buy a nice new Opti.......

Cheers for that.

I'm close enough! Probably won't get hold of it before the end of the month, and as it's coming off a scrap engine if it's got an intact hood at a half sensible price it might be easier to make it reappear as a Mariner (especially as my current hood is starting to show it's age....

I'll PM you once I get it.
