I know it's totally illegal to buy one of the new 9.8s that you see from time to time floating around on the grey market, but if I say" did buy one" how bad a person would I be? Would say pacer marine refuse to service it?

I'm pretty sure it's only illegal to sell one. You shouldn't have any problem getting it serviced - why would anyone care?
