Another nice easy test is to disconnect the coil wiring totally, get a 9v battery and connect the negative to the coil's earth, then flick a bit of wire onto the positive side. Do it fast-you're just after a quick burst of energy. don't actually connect it as keeping it connected could burn the coil out.

You'll get a spark of some description if the coil isn't duff.

Here's the electrical specification for your Tohatsu. Have you checked for continuity from the exciter coil, pulsar coil, etc?

I've had a Tohatsu 5hp 2 stoke for about 17 years now, every summer I pour some fresh fuel in, give it a few pulls and off we go!

Here is the latest....

I fitted a new ignition coil and HT lead, but still the same. I get the occasional spark, but it is VERY weak and barely visible. The old coil is giving the same performance. literally once every 20 pulls or so, I get a tiny spark.

The rage is strong in me at the moment.....

Is there a pulser coil on the 5hp Twatsoo?

Jeez you've changed everything else!

Get to it Simon... I can literally hear that 5hp scream into action!

My Twatsoo goes in on Tuesday. Thrown in the towel as taken it as far as I can without removing flywheel. My money is on the pulsar coil or the exciter.
