Thanks for replies. I got a specialist engine shop in Aberdeen to fit steel inserts. Pick up the head on Friday. 60 for the job, which is significantly cheaper than a new cylinder head and probably stronger than the original cast material. Only down side was new 65 gasket! Twatsoo know how to charge!

Head back on. 125 poorer as a result, but that's the shakes. Aberdeen Head Shop did a fantastic job on the steel inserts. Used a new Tohatsu gasket which for anyone doing the same job has been superseded by part number 3F3-01005-1. Nice bit of kit... for a gasket! Torqued in sequence, etc. I don't have service manual, but found older document online that said stage one is 15lb ft, then final torque of 29-34lb ft. Sound right?

Most Tohatsu's power heads are torqued to 30 Newton Meters, check if Lb/Ft conversion is about same.

Happy Boating
