Normally salt building up in the tell tale nozzle - 1990s Soozooks were notorious for it. Clean it out with a bit of fishing line. Drilling out the nozzle to a larger diameter helps.

its not salt --when i take the hose off the end pipe it still happens
there is a good tell one minute then it stops
the water also stops coming out the exaust
a piece of wire cured it some time but it seems to be something else.

Well, if there's no water coming through the exhaust, it sounds like your impeller needs changing. When was it last replaced?

There's no reason it should be the float/temp sensor.

Good point, willk.
I assumed the hose referred to was the hose between the powerhead and the tell-tale nozzle.

I assume there is enough water in the tank?

Are you certain the waterways are clear in the powerhead? I've known the tell tale to block from residual salt crystals, even when running on fresh water for a few minutes.

You can get treatments that remove salt build up in powerheads however if it something else that has built up then I am not really sure.

I would be checking any plastic pipes, thermostats and housings etc first to make sure there are no other blockages.
