Suzuki DF140 any good?

Hi chaps,
are these engines reliable and robust?

the divingclub is going for one after ours was stolen.

and thoughts?

I have one on a Ribcraft 585 and I think its great

Very good on fuel too

We've had a few and they are very smart looking, age quite well and run smooth. You don't see them available used much, as people tend to keep hold of them when they have them

A smooth, quiet, economical engine, but reputed to fall short on delivering its stated number of ponies.

I have one too on a ribquest 6.3. Good on fuel, true. Quite, true. Reliable, i have had a broke down after 65hours due to a broken low pressure gasoline pump. Repaired under warranty in Belgium, so no big deal. Since then no problems any more and now 300hours on the clock!!! Flying, not really behind a 6.3 m rib of that really UK quality built rib, should do a good job on a 5m rib though!!!

so in general a good engine. Always look what you really like to do the engine for you: speed, cruising economically, hole shot,....then decide.....

You might find a better deal on a Merc 150hp 4 stroke.

Great outboard, economical, quiet and reliable. In addition, it is probably the lightest 4 stroke available around the 140HP size.
I have also heard that it produces circa 130HP at the prop, but I would not let this put you off, it is a fabulous unit.

I suppose 130hp at the prop puts it in the same league as the 125 Opti & 130 etec.

Oooh 125hp 1.5L 3cyl Opti on a 5.5m rib. Tasty.

Still wish we kept our 90hp (same block) opti with the SR5.4 it flew.

Those little two strokes have awesome throttle response.

Had a 140 hp Suzi on our 6.1m Cuddy Redbay for the past 6 years,great engine very quiet and always starts immediately

good engine but the honda 135hp has longer warranty and is cheaper and we have just sold 2 to other diving clubs so references available.
