Standard or short shaft on Avon 4m

Hi

I have an Avon 4m with a Mariner 30efi. I would like to upgrade and have seen a secondhand 40hp but with standard shaft. problem is I don't know what length mine is and boat is a fair drive away.

Dont mind whether I have Mariner, Mercury, Honda or Yamaha.

Anyone able to tell me whether I need standard or long shaft for this RIB.

I don't think Avon made anything at 4m as a rib with short/std shaft.

I think you'll need a long shaft...

Bit of potential confusion here. There is no standard standard

I see people referring to both long and short shaft as standard.

Short Shaft - 15" transom, actual engines may be 16-18"
Long Shaft - 20" Transom, engines a touch more
Extra Long - 25" Transom.

The SR needs Long Shaft but the seller MAY be calling this Standard Shaft so worth a look.

doesn't it also depend on the SR4 transom being original, if it's straight across it should be the "long" shaft your looking for, but if the transom has been messed about with an shortened then you could be looking at a "short" shaft

I 'thought' short and std are mostly the same....long is long is long

As Chris said if it's been hacked about...everything can change.

There's a new class of transom height between a short 15" and a long 20", it's a 18", named as no man's land as seen on low overboard rescue ribs and surfers shuttles. Measure middle transom to lower keel in straight line to exactly know.

Have decided to go for the yamaha outboard which has a 20" shaft.

Which companies would couriour this from the seller to me?

Also can anyone advise how best to sell Mariner 30hp efi 2007 year with 120 hrs and at what value?

Standard shaft is usually referred to as short (17")
Long shaft is around 20".
If u measure from the transom to the lowest point of the keel you will be able to determine wether you have a long or a short boat.
The engines are measured from the clamp that sits on the transom to the cavitation plate (above the prop)

Avon S4.00 Supersport RIB used a std shaft outboard (40hp max)

Swopped an engine on an sr4 last year, as previous posters correctly stated if the top of the transom has no cutaway it's the original long shaft transom.
When I had the engine off the sr4 I had a 90 yam on an engine stand next to it. How I wish that I had hung it on the back and posted a picture on here !
I bet that thread would still be going ...............
