Stainless Steel Props

What difference will a stainless steel prop give to my boats performance compared to a bog standard factory prop? I will a have a 6.4m with 200 Opti on the back - delivery in 2-3 weeks time.

The thinner S/S Blades will allow the engine to be raised increasing the speed and reduce the amount of ventilation during hard cornering. However if you are planning to keep the boat in the water then your annodes are going to disappear alot quicker as the S/S prop and Aluminium leg will form a rather nice battery in salt water. However annodes are cheap so this might be worth it.

Laser 2 prop

I may be wrong, but if it is a new engine you are buying with the boat then it should come with a Laser 2 stainless prop as standard.

As of January 2004 (and maybe even before that, but this is the most recent info I have) all mercury outboards above 135hp will have thir propeller upgraded to a stainless Laser 2 prop.

Here it is on the 2004 Mercury Retail Price List. I would check that this is the case with your supplier though as you are entitled to it along with twin Smartcraft gauges as well.

A 21" ali prop.

I changed mine to a solas stainless 21" and have gained no more revs and about 1 knot higher speed, but it isn't getting 'dinked' at the edges with tiny river debris like the ali prop was.
