No reason you can't run on red just need to install a heating system if you want to legally declare 60/40 split
Then again if it's trailered who knows where you bought the fuel or whether you paid the duty on it

Interesting if so & the fact they run on just about anything oily seems a good idea. Jet A1 is apparently quite cheap...

A Google search says these have been around for 10 years. The one page I read had a response from the engine guy saying to run them on regular ultra low sulphur diesel.
Oops. Said they can burn diesel in a pinch or for a short time. It was a Mercury blog. Having trouble with the phone pasting the link.

Modern diesel tech is so advanced, the weight difference is narrowing all the time, apart from low end torque and fuel variety, kinda makes me wonder why they see it as worthwhile ... ? top SUV's aren't seeing much difference in consumption between 3.0 diesels, and larger petrols .. 0-60 stats are similar too, petrols cheaper ofcourse, which balances the better diesel mpg .. so what do we have ? better torque,economy, simpler electrics ?

There were diesel engines being fitted to aircraft 5–10 years ago, but I'm not sure what's happening now: the main manufacturer went bust.
Fuel consumption and availability were supposed to be the big benefits, but they weren't catching on all that well. Presumably they managed to make them at least somewhat light-weight, and maybe diesel outboards could benefit from similar engineering.
Nitrous oxide emissions are nasty, though. I wouldn't be too surprised to see higher fuel duty for diesel if it continues to be a problem in London. That or higher VED for diesel cars.
Diesel's a bit safer to handle, though. Does that affect how easy it is to get a boat coded?
