Cheers UTT-it's answeredd my question as it's got the exact wiring loom in there that I have (page 504 on the 150/175 Opti wiring for anyone else ever searching for it)

Ok, next question. It's fairly obvious my speedo isn't going to work, but apparently I can hook it up to a nmea0183 output to pick up speed from the GPS.It's an input only to the SC1000 gauges.

So...
I've got the VHF currently hooked up to the NMEA 0183 in/out of the HDS7.

Can I split the 0183 output to get the speedo working, or would I be better off getting something like the Actisense NMEA 2000 to 0183 gateway to run the smartcraft speedo off the N2K network? Would I gain extra functionality from the gauges too?

I'll have to have a look at that link. Not sure if you can use the nmea on both though.

Well.... I found a few forum posts from the USA saying the signal strength is enough from Lowrance kit to do it-and it works as it's only an out rather than a 2 way connection. I'll have to try it I guess.

Not quite sure if it's what you're wanting to do Nos, but I have the Actisense NMEA multiplexer, it allows you to input several NMEA0183 inputs & share them out to various devices as NMEA0183, effectively splitting & combining as required. Let me know if you need further info. it works a treat.

Thanks PD.

I think I've found my answer. Smartcraft SC1000 gauges need a nmea0183 signal set to 4800 baud.(the same as the GX1600 VHF I have, which is good).

Apparently Lowrance GPS units transmit with enough power to split the signal to 2 receivers.

Sorted! I should have working gauges and working DSC. I'll find out when it all fires up...

I'll try. Might take a while, I won't know if it's worked 'til I power the console up when it's all connected and on the boat.

Ok, from intensive research so far.

You should be able to split the NMEA 0183 output from an HDS unit into 2 to run both Smartcraft and DSC.
In your GPS, enable NMEA output, set the baud rate to 4800, and enable the following sentences RMB, RMC (for the SmartCraft) and GLL (for the VHF).

NMEA data and
Hooking your GPS to the Smartcraft Speedo/Vesselview

are useful references.
