S/S prop
I've been recently dissuaded from realising my dream. That is, to fit a stainless steel prop onto the RIB.
Simply put, if there's the slightest chance of the prop grounding, then a stainless one will break the gearbox. An ally prop will simply disfigure and be fixable.
Sound advice and much as I hate to admit it, maybe my SS prop will simply have to live on the transom as a spare.......had to get it you see?

I know........but this came from a dealer on the South Coast ( geddit ? ) that is about as straight up and right on and honest as I have met.
He could have taken the money and said nothing. That's really what I meant.
Still got the prop though. Just not fitted.

I think I've had the same advice from same chap...about ten years ago...he does a good trade from dinged props....he'd make more from new gearboxes...

Love the video. Not quite the way unthought they would have been made.
Most propellors have a rubber bush. That is to take the impact and protect your gearbox.
Race props often don't have a rubber bush and we have to start engines in gear and have engines off when changing direction otherwise the gearboxes don't last very long.
I have stainless on just about everything I drive and I have yet to blow a gearbox.

I was about to ask........whilst the advice was invaluable and correct for the likes of myself, has anybody actually suffered g'box issues as a result of clipping and are there shearshafts available to protect?

Friend of mine made shite of a stainless prop on a pier with his Suzi 115. Divil the bit of harm it did his shaft, although I'd say he had a sudden tensing of the sack when the prop drilled in...

Buy a prop with a plastic flo-torq hub, if you do hit anything the hub is sacrificial. Oh and carry a spare hub onboard
