we got one on a 655 which I think may be the same transom.

we put a yacht type auxillary bracket on the Back of the transom and hung it off that

The 535 is a very narrow hull and if you have an 'A' frame then chances are you don't have enough space for an aux. There is a 3.5 outboard which is quite narrow. Take the rib to your local Merc/mariner dealer and try it. If not then its a bracket or just don't worry about it.

I have a 5hp on my 5.85 I am not sure what the difference in size is. I have myn on a bracket so that I can ajust the height. Did some reaserch and some barckets are designed to hold the weight when the boat is going along at speed. some are not and flex sideways.

have fun

Hi

I have a 6hp Mercury as an auxiliary engine on our 585. Not sure how the width of the transom compares with the 535. The engine does fit but the installation is far from ideal as in order to use it, it has to be slid along the transom to be lowered. In its storage position, governed by the steering arm, the A frame prevents it from being lowered.

Just for your information at WOT the auxiliary engine gives 3.7 knots (from the GPS), so not exactly speedy but quicker than paddling ! I also went for a 4 stroke even though the main engine is a 2 stroke as this meant that it could be plumbed into the ribs main fuel tank. I think that with hind sight I should have gone for the 5hp as this has an integrated tank which would have given me the option to have a separate fuel supply very easily and the 1hp difference would not have much effect on performance.

dgpw – do you have any more details of the engine mount that you used ?

Rgds

Pete

The 535 is a very narrow hull (bit like avon sea riders) but how about one of these: 9 or 20 hp available.
