remove oil pump?

2000 model mariner 135hp
owned many a boat and jet ski allways removed pump and pre mixed it.... been told by many... things are so much more advanced these days that you are pretty safe...
who premix.s and how many dont?

but even then you have to ensure air tight seal on oil tank or it can go tits up. care full to bleed after re filling oil tank? this bit worries me as i dont really understand the crack. my suki 85 only had the tank on the engine this has engine header tank + feeder tank any help and guidance gr8tly appreciated

Assuming its the ordinary 135 V6 2 stoke then they have been around in various hps for years and are pretty well sorted. Small oil tank on the engine is fed from the main tank. If you run low the small tank has an alarm. Use a good quality 2 stroke oil to reduce the ash build up. Suggest Quicksilver stuff. Don't worry about the engine, simple design lends itself to DIY servicing and maintenance.

If its an Opti then have a chat with Rogue Wave or Scarlet Pimp what ever he is called now, but the basic engine is still a V6.Stick to the correct oil though which he can do at a good price.

So go on then whats the rib you have bought to go with this beastie ?

Yer good buy - opti or not. Opti's use exactly the same system for filling the engine tank BTW.

I've had bad experiences of auto-lube systems in the past but as Pete says this has been in use for years on mercs and mariners.

The engine pumps air into the tank to force oil back upto the smaller tank on the engine - hence the cap needs to be tight or it won't work.

2nd level of defence is the buzzer if the engine tank gets low.

If you've got an optimax then 3rd level of defence is the clever computer which will slow the engine if there is little or no oil. Now if you have enough faith to own a boat engine with a computer onboard then i suppose you must have enough faith to keep the oil-injection system as well!

Only if the engine tank gets low... which will never happen if all pipes OK and cap tight on and you don't run out of oil in main tank.

Console looks very nice too.

Gauges are not smartcraft, looks like pukka Mercury ones through, big Tacho and Spedo as well as, two smaller ones, prob. trim and maybe temperature.

Let us know how it goes...
